Why my coreflute materials have changed

Wherever I can, I will always work with local businesses and source sustainable alternatives.

Researching sustainable signage

For my first campaign in 2021, I did a lot of research to find an alternative to plastic for my signage, which is how I found Oppboga, a material made from 100% biodegradable paper (which also already contained 60% recycled material).

On the eve of the last election, a third party vandalised and removed a considerable number of my coreflute signage, so I needed to purchase some more.

Unfortunately, the market for these types of plastic replacements hasn't increased in the last few years. It was disappointing to discover I could no longer source the more sustainable material.

So, I've had to purchase plastic ones. I've chosen the thinnest possible and chosen to support a local business with the printing. All electoral material has to state where it is printed. It is usually displayed at the bottom so you’ll see how I am supporting local.

Check out other candidates’ materials: do they also support local businesses?

All my plastic coreflutes will now be recycled through Corex.

My campaign walks the talk with our values

We’re not into hot air or greenwashing!

Here are some other things that we’re proud of about our Lane Cove Council campaign:

  • Printing locally

We’re making sure that our printed campaign material is printed locally to reduce transport emissions and to support local businesses

  • Our campaign t-shirts are made in NSW from organic cotton

We got these produced by Organic Tees. They use water-based inks free from solvents, toxic chemicals, CFCs, HCFCs, and other nasties. Organic cotton isn’t perfect but it uses 91 percent less water than regular cotton and it produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Reducing wastage
We’re careful to make sure we only produce as much as we need.
