The Sydney Library of Things
I’m really proud that we now have a Lane Cove branch of The Sydney Library of Things (TSLOT) and The Lane Cove Toy Library. The Lane Cove Toy Library was established by a grant from The Lane Cove Council. We also operate out of premises owned by the Lane Cove Council and thank them for their support.
As the instigator and one of the cofounders of TSLOT, it’s incredibly rewarding to see this 100% volunteer-run (and our vollies are awesome!!!) project expanding. Our first branch is based at the Coal Loader Centre of Sustainability in Waverton with the generous support of North Sydney Council. Under the guidance of Carol Skyring, our enthusiastic and very hardworking President, our not-for-profit is now expanding into other LGA’s within Sydney.
These types of share-economy projects, save resources and help reduce landfill, reduce cost-of-living pressures and help build resilient & sustainable communities, thus strengthening community connections. Research shows that people who contribute & borrow from a tool library express a sense of belonging in the broader community.
In my role as a councillor, I’m also advocating to LGNSW to encourage all councils to consider having a toy/tool/thing library.
