Lane Cove talks: Discover the results of my community survey
I asked our community their thoughts about Lane Cove and what they wanted Lane Cove Council to prioritise. What you told me has directly shaped the policies I am taking to the 4 December Lane Cove Council election!
As a community-based independent candidate, I’m here only to represent what the community wants. So how do you know what our community wants? You ask them!
From June to October 2021, my team and I surveyed people aged 18 to 66+ who live in the Lane Cove area.
Our community was loud and clear about what you love about Lane Cove.
We worked hard to get submissions representative of diverse ages and gender.
According to the most recent census, the average age in Lane Cove is 37 so it was important to get young people’s perspectives too - even though it’s harder to get them to respond to community surveys.
What we asked Lane Cove residents about
This isn’t an exhaustive list. But you told us you were interested in:
Development and housing density
Issues concerning the environment
Inclusion and diversity within the community
Council communication and consultation
Sporting facilities
Public transport
Small business support
Protecting the environment is high on your list

Our community understands that local government can play an essential role in the fight against climate change
There is strong sentiment against development that negatively impacts our community and bushland and concerns about traffic management
The Lane Cove community wants more from their council when it comes to communications, consultation and engagement
The community has strong opinions about the use of public recreational space. But don’t necessarily want more sporting facilities
They want fair access to open space
The community is, however, interested in more support for the performing arts locally
Lane Cove residents also want more acknowledgement and celebration of our community’s diversity
Our survey findings support and directly inform my policies
They reinforce that environmental concerns are mainstream in our community
They provide clarity on the issues of fair and equitable development and use of sporting facilities
They emphasise that inclusion and diversity is important to us all
Clarify the need for improved Council communications
But you can have a lot of talk, but find out how this translates to action!
