Keeping kids occupied (for free!) during Lane Cove lockdown

Eep just what parents need - lockdown during school holidays. Here are a few ideas to keep them occupied without breaking the bank!

Get crafty with the Art Gallery of NSW

The Art Gallery of NSW has pulled together some free online and downloadable activities for kids via Together in Art.

You can get creative with artist-led projects, art-making videos and other fun activities.

Get involved in the ITC #chalkitup competition

Local website In the Cove is encouraging families to enter their #chalkitup competition. All you need to do is draw in chalk on your driveway or the footpath something that brings joy to others.

It might be – rainbows, unicorns, butterflies, hearts and positive messages.

It doesn’t matter if you live in a house or apartment. Everyone has a footpath outside their building. So go ahead and chalk up your driveway or footpath!

There are prizes to be won too! Entries close 9 July.

Find more information here.

Make you own board game or do other activities via State Library of NSW online workshops

The State Library of NSW is running a series of free and live online workshops for kids.

From how to make your own board game to spy craft, there is something for every child’s interest!

The library is also offering a Creative Kids box. It’s filled with activities designed to delight primary school aged children.

You can use your Creative Kids voucher to get it delivered straight to your door for free. Or, purchase it online from the Library Shop.

Do a locally organised online art classes (not free but affordable!)

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is also delivering school holiday workshops online via Zoom until Friday 9 July.

They are organising painting, drawing, textiles and collage-based activities.

All workshops are under 2 hours and $20.00 each. Booking link here.

Get reading with help from home delivery

It's worth checking out the Lane Cove Council's Library to Your Door service – it’s home delivery but for books!

For a small fee, residents can reserve items and have them delivered within 3 working days of the item being available.

An unlimited number of items can be ordered for delivery.

Get outdoors to explore Lane Cove’s natural environment

Lane Cove has some of the best walks close to the city around. I found this article from Ella's List of some of the best in the Lane Cove area for families.

Playgrounds also remain open but it's important to follow NSW Health advice and maintain physical distancing at all times.

I’m keen to support families

Did you know that the average age in Lane Cove is 37? There are a lot of young families in Lane Cove. I am keen to advocate for them.
