Support for Lane Cove businesses during lockdown

Small local businesses add texture and depth to the place we live. Lane Cove wouldn't be what it was without them. I’ve rounded up some grants small businesses should know about.

As a small business owner myself, I know how challenging things are at the moment.

It's so important to shop local, but you also don't have to have a lot of money to support local businesses.

Even writing them a positive review on Google helps. It’s like giving your local business owner a virtual hug. It makes us feel all warm and happy!

And it also helps them when people search for them online.

Here are some other ways you can support businesses.

Poster - How to Support Small Businesses.jpeg

We have created this in A4 poster form and you might see it in local businesses in Lane Cove.

If you’re interested in putting one up in your window, send us an email and we can get you one for free.

Covid-19 grant relief from the NSW Government

The NSW Government announced on 12 July a big new financial support package. It’s for businesses or not-for-profit organisations impacted by the recent COVID-19 restrictions and stay-at-home orders. Businesses will be able to apply for grant support via Service NSW.

It includes:

  • COVID-19 business grant: if you’re a business, sole trader or not-for-profit organisation impacted by the current Greater Sydney COVID-19 restrictions, you may be able to apply for a grant of up to $15,000.

  • Saving Jobs: a support program funded jointly by the NSW and Commonwealth governments to maintain employment of staff for small and medium businesses impacted by the current health restrictions.

  • Micro business grant: if you’re a micro business (small business or sole trader with annual turnover of more than $30,000 and under $75,000) impacted by the current Greater Sydney COVID-19 restrictions, you may be able to apply for a $1,500 payment per fortnight of restrictions from late July 2021.

Visit the Service NSW website for more information and to register your interest.

Federal Government Covid-19 disaster payment

If you’ve lost income due to lockdown restrictions in Sydney from June 2021, you may be eligible for the Covid-19 disaster payment from the Australian Government. A lump sum payment of up to $600 is available for each recognised event. This support is available for Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible working visa holders to apply.

Dine & Discover NSW vouchers extended

In good news, Dine & Discover NSW vouchers have been extended to 31 August! I know not everyone can afford takeaway all the time which is why it is good that the vouchers can now be used for that (if you have any left!)

You can use them at eligible and registered Dine businesses during the restriction period.

They want to support delivery direct to the home by the restaurant or café is recommended. But you can go pick it up as long as you check-in using the QR code.

You can’t use them with third-party delivery like Deliveroo or Uber Eats though. Which is a great move as those services take a serious cut from the businesses bottom line. Always best to buy direct!
