Lane Cove Sport and Recreation Centre to go ahead - no matter the NSW State Election outcome

Last night’s council meeting was an important night for our community with some certainty on the delivery of a much-longed for Lane Cove Sports and Recreation Centre. It was voted to proceed to tender at the ordinary council meeting.

There was a huge turn out in the chambers - democracy in action. Thank you to all that took the time to attend.

There was a lot of behind the scenes collaboration to get to this outcome.

Councillor Merri Southwood, Councillor Rochelle Flood,  Councillor Kathy Bryla and I spent a huge amount of hours in the lead up to this meeting, to make sure the final motion that was passed included a number of check points in the process to address concerns from members of our community.

I’m a supporter of sports facilities for our community

I’ve always supported a multi-purpose sporting facility being built in our area - but have been pushing for checks and balances along the way to ensure that it meets the highest environmental performance standards and that it was for fit for purpose.

When I ran for council, it was a central part of my platform to be an advocate for sustainable, appropriate and community focused development. So many of you told me that you wanted this too. I am a firm believer that any projects built by Lane Cove Council should be world-class. We owe this to the communities who use our facilities now and in the future.

My initial preference, however, was for it to be a joint venture with Willoughby Council. I thought this would be a good way to share resource.

Now the Lane Cove Sports and Recreation Centre has been successfully voted upon to go to tender, I will stand by my Councillor colleagues and the staff to facilitate its procurement.

I will continue to advocate for the Lane Cove Sports and Recreation Centre project to be procured in the safest possible way for the environment and that it strategically aims to be future proofed for clean energy.

Let’s make this something we can all be proud of!

This is a local council project: not a matter for our State MP

I want to be clear on something - this project is a LOCAL GOVERNMENT initiative. Whatever happens tomorrow in the NSW State Election will have NO IMPACT on how the Lane Cove Sports and Recreation Centre proceeds.

It is extremely disappointing to hear that people in our community are spreading misinformation that says otherwise. It is a gross last minute grab for votes and does a huge disservice to our community and the democratic process.

As a community-focused independent, I will always advocate for more integrity and transparency in politics and be honest with you all.
