We did it! Lane Cove’s getting a performance space.

EXCITING NEWS: This is 25 years in the making. Lane Cove's performing arts community is finally getting a performing space! At last night's Lane Cove Council meeting, my motion to convert the council meeting rooms into a multi-purpose performance space passed unanimously.

One of the first meetings I had as a new councillor was with Lochie, President of Lane Cove Theatre Company . It was then that I gained a greater understanding of just how long the performing arts community had been fighting for a space.

As council meetings can be a bit of a performance sometimes, it made sense (with a bit of right brain creative thinking) to keep with the theatrical theme and convert our meeting furniture to a mobile set, tweak some other things, and provide a performance venue for this much under utilised space.

It's a win-win:

- delivers cultural outcomes

- utilises existing council assets and infrastructure

- draws people into our village to visit nearby restaurants and other businesses

- will operate in a central area near existing restaurants and parking

I’d like to thank Councillor Kaythy Bryla for her support with this motion, and the sketches that she provided. Her architectural knowledge and input has been a real asset to both this and other motions that we’ve been navigating throughout the year.
